
The Fourth of July is a joyous holiday for all Americans. People all over the country celebrate in a variety of different ways. The second U.S. President and one of the nation’s Founding Fathers, John Adams, predicted grand celebrations around Independence Day every year, and fireworks have long been a part of the festivities from the beginning. Adams would surely be thrilled if he could see the schedule of the events planned in Farmington, New Mexico, between June 30th and July 4th. Residents and visitors can enjoy plenty of fun activities during Freedom Days leading up to the Fourth of July 2023, a tradition that has been going on for 37 years.
June 30th
From 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at McGee Park, a gem and mineral show will take place featuring gemstones, jewelry, mineral specimens, tools, books, family activities, door prizes and more. The entry fee is $1 per person. Over at Orchard Park people can enjoy free music and purchase pizza from Three Rivers Pizzeria during the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
July 1st
While the gem show is going on for a second day, there will also be an ice cream social from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the E3 Children’s Museum. The Farmington Jazz Festival kicks off at 2 p.m. and wraps up at 9 p.m. at the Farmington Civic Center Outdoor Plaza. Food trucks and more will be on site. Here is the schedule for the day:

- 5:30 p.m. San Juan Jazz Society
- 6:45 p.m. Brad Goode Quintet
- 8 p.m. Siempre
July 2nd-3rd
On Sunday, July 2nd, the final day of the gem show will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Then, on July 3rd, a fireworks display will begin at 9:25 p.m. The fireworks will be set off from Sullivan Hill and simulcast on KWYK 94.9 FM. Make sure to find the perfect spot to park and set up your camping chairs by arriving early.
July 4th
Country music artist Collin Raye will take the stage at the Farmington Civic Center Plaza for a free concert Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The fun kicks off with food trucks on site from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and a splash pad for kids that runs until 6:30 p.m. People who attend the show are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket if they want to have a picnic.
