Spending time outdoors and getting in joyful movement can help lower stress levels and boost your happiness – and who doesn’t love that? This summer, spend some time in nature and take advantage of one of the gorgeous trails around Gallup.
High Desert Trail System
The High Desert Trail System (First and Second Mesa) is a 28-mile loop where you can enjoy views of wildflowers along with the view of the mountains. The trail is also open to dogs and bikes, so you can enjoy its beauty no matter how you’d like to explore. In addition, you’ll find several activity stations at various points on the trail to add extra interest while you hike.
Red Rock Park Trails
Within the Red Rock Park, the Pyramid Rock trail is Gallup’s flagship trail. It’s a three-mile round-trip route that meanders past incredible rock formations up a stunning smut with panoramic views of the park. Along the Pyramid Rock trail, you’ll enjoy wayfinding signs and markers that add context to the geography, culture, and history of the area.
If you’ve already conquered the Pyramid Rock trail, check out the Church Rock Trail, another Gallup favorite. This two-mile route starts at the Outlaw Trading Post and takes you up to breathtaking views of the Church Rock sandstone spires.
UMN Gallup Campus Trail
If you’re just looking for a quick loop to get out and get some movement in, pop over to the Fitness Trail at UNM Gallup. The trail is great for all skill levels, so don’t worry if you aren’t a frequent hiker! You can utilize the Fitness Trail all year and enjoy sights of wildflowers and native birds as you hike.
